Sensofar joins the FAUSTO Project to help shape the future of autonomous manufacturing

Metrology, 新闻, 技术

Sensofar is proud to participate in the FAUSTO project, a pioneering European Union initiative that brings together leading industry and research partners to revolutionize smart manufacturing. The project aims to develop secure, sustainable, and fully autonomous production environments by integrating cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (particularly deep learning), edge computing, intelligent sensors and optical systems, digital twins, and blockchain-based traceability and security systems.

FAUSTO is an industrial research and innovation project focused on demonstrating, in real-world manufacturing settings, how advanced technologies can automate and optimize high-precision industrial processes.

Within the consortium, Sensofar’s contribution is centered on quality control and inspection through advanced optical systems and computer vision. Specifically, Sensofar will lead the development of systems capable of evaluating surface quality, measuring topography, and detecting thermal defects using optical metrology and artificial vision.

To achieve this, Sensofar will enhance its S mart 2 sensor by integrating intelligent autofocus powered by AI and implementing a fast-distance sensor to dynamically correct focus. Additionally, the company will produce an automated labeling system using 3D optical sensors embedded directly into the production line. An autonomous AI-based application will also be developed to analyze and interpret the sensor data in real time.

The FAUSTO project challenges traditional visions of the factory of the future, where automation is driven solely by robotics and 3D printing, by proposing a cyber-physical approach. These systems, powered by AI and trained with large, labeled datasets, can make real-time decisions independently.

Ultimately, FAUSTO represents a transformative shift in advanced manufacturing. The project aims to enable more intelligent, autonomous, and environmentally responsible European production models through different advanced technologies.

The FAUSTO initiative officially launched in January 2025 and is scheduled for completion in December 2027. With a total budget of 5.675.121€, it is supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the CDTI (Center for the Development of Technology and Innovation). With its strong emphasis on efficiency and sustainability, this initiative not only exemplifies the European commitment to digital and green transitions but also positions FAUSTO as a benchmark for the smart factories of the future.
